Normophosphatemia and normocalcemia are maintained in chronic kidney disease (CKD)
by increased levels of fibroblast growth factor-23 (FGF-23) and parathyroid hormone (PTH),
but the stimuli for secretion of these hormones in early CKD are incompletely understood.
